Buttermilk Organic Biscuits   Yum

Classic Buttermilk Biscuits - Simple and Organic 
Light and airy, these biscuits taste just the way a real southern biscuit should, but are packed with protein and fiber from fresh-ground, organic whole wheat flour. Delicious served warm, slathered in butter or served beside your favorite soup.

Ingredients (Makes 8 round biscuits):
  • 3 cups (15.75 oz) freshly ground organic soft white wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 5 tbsp. unsalted butter or shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk

      Cooking Instructions

      • Assemble ingredients and preheat oven to 425°.
      • Whisk together flour, salt, baking soda and sugar
      • Using a pastry cutter, cut in butter until mixture is course in  texture and resembles peas in size.
      • Add buttermilk quickly, then mix until a soft dough forms.
      • Knead dough on a lightly floured surface gently until it reaches a more thoroughly combined consistency.
      • Roll out dough 3/4 inch thick, then cut into 8 biscuits.
      • Put biscuits on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper (optional: brush biscuits with melted butter) and bake for 12-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
      • Take biscuits out of oven and serve immediately, or cool  on baking rack and store tightly covered for up to four days.
